Experience

Private Tutor - I have thousands of tutoring hours under my belt working for private clients. I mainly work with students in middle school/high school in math, but I also tutor in English/writing, social studies, science, and Spanish. I'm currently tutoring 4 clients in the South Bay area. Tutor-Mentor - I also have thousands of hours tutoring over 150 elementary school students in English and math as part of the ReadersPlus Program at USC*. My responsibilities included making unique lesson plans for my one-on-one students. I also enjoy the wisdom and experience of working with a team of 70+ tutors. As a Junior, I earned a promotion to work as the central coordinator for the program. Why I like being a tutor - I love to learn, and I see tutoring as a journey that positively changes both me and my student. I can't count the number of amazing changes I've been a part of because of tutoring. Hobbies

I'm a caring and thoughtful tutor. I'm very personable and I can get along well with students of all ages and backgrounds. I love to prepare for my student, and I get excited about coming in with a game plan and executing it. One critical thing to me is giving the student a chance to tutor me. Everyone, even children, are experts. So I learn from them, and I think this gives them a chance to see tutoring as an exchange, not just a time where someone talks over them. I see the challenges that come with school as a kind of game. Tutoring becomes a lesson in what kinds of strategies are necessary to 'jump through the hoop.' I want my students to fly through the hoop, but I also want them to land with solid conceptual understanding - something they will have for the future. Sometimes I have to spend time teaching organizational or study skills... but I find that students naturally have their preferred way of learning, and I try to enforce that as much as possible.
